The Roman God Janus is depicted with two faces on one head, one looking forward to the future and one back to the past. In this work I wrestle with that duality, that sense of looking forward and back, the recognition of being at a point of transition and shift. As women we inhabit different roles throughout our lives, worker, spouse, mother, sister, friend. Always sharing, always reaching outwards and giving of ourselves. With this work I sought to pull back from the external and look within, exploring sometimes conflicting ideas of vulnerability and strength.
