Hireath is a Welsh word that speaks to a longing for a place or time to which we can never return. This is at the heart of much of my work, a nostalgia for the past, felt in the knowledge that it is an illusion. Memory distorts what we have experienced creating a new reality that suits our perception of who we are and what we hold to be true. The scars we bear, the trace that time’s passing leaves on us and on the landscape is also a memory of sorts, but one more visceral and rawly felt.
